I thought it would be really interesting to show key events over the queen's long reign along side tecnological advancements and key world events. I purposely went for a tube map style - and managed to make events where the queen was involved in said events link back to her timeline. My initial pitch for this was going to be more visually stunning, using Canvas/processing.js to draw more of a natural tree diagram, but html5 was not supported by the vast majority of our users at the time.
